The Cathedral Vidya School, Lonavala is proud to announce the dates for its signature annual event 'Spandan' which is an exciting mélange of sports exuberance, intellectual inspiration, cultural brilliance and artistic excellence. The three days' mega event will showcase the zeal and aspirations of the students across the country as they participate in a wide range of competitions.

This year, the eighth avatar of Spandan has metamorphosed into a dynamic platform for excellence, with the introduction of swimming, Indian classical dance and a futuristic fashion show.

With pleasure, we extend the invitation, seeking your schools' earnest participation in the forthcoming event. The details of the events are below.

Basketball

Rules and Regulations : Boys and Girls

  • The tournament will be conducted on the basis of league-cum-knock-out.
  • Tournament will be played in two categories: Boys' Under-16 and Under-18; and Girls' Under -18.
  • Students of grade XI & XII are eligible to participate only in Under-18 category.
  • Every school is entitled to enter with a team with a maximum of ten players (five on field and five
  • substitutes) in each age group.
  • Duration for all games for the Boys Under -18 will be 8-2-8-3-8-2-8.
  • Duration for all games for the Boys Under -16 and Girls will be 6-2-6-3-6-2-6.
  • Timeout: In all the league matches, every team will be eligible for three timeouts- 01 in the first half and 02 in the second half. Also, 01 timeout granted in the third quarter and 01 timeout in the fourth quarter. If a team does not avail the timeout in the third quarter, it will be dissolved. In all the knockout matches the timeout will be as per the B.F.I. (Basketball Federation of India) rules.
  • All matches will be played according to the rules of B.F.I.
  • The size and weight of the ball is according to the B.F.I. norms. All the Boys' categories will play with a
  • Size 7 ball and Girls' category will play with a Size 6 ball. 10. Players need to be in their playing kit. 11. All teams need to report 30 minutes before their scheduled time; failure to do so will result in a walkover.
  • Teams should be accompanied by a Teacher/Team-in-charge/Coach.
  • Modifications in rules can be done after discussion with team managers, when needed.
  • Team members are responsible for their sports equipment and personal belongings.
  • The organizing committee has the rights to change the schedule, timings; or to reschedule the matches.
  • In case of any protest, the decision of the Jury of Appeal / Protest Committee shall be final.

Soccer

Rules and Regulations: Boys and Girls

  • The tournament will be conducted on the basis of league-cum-knock-out.
  • In category Under-16 and Under-18 Boys', the teams shall consist of sixteen players in total (eleven
  • players on the field and five extras).
  • In categories Under-14 Boys' and Under-18 Girls', the teams will consist of ten players in total (six on
  • the field and four extras).
  • Students of grade XI & XII are eligible to participate only in the Under-18 Category.
  • Duration of all games will be two 20 minute halves with a 5 minute halftime when teams must change
  • ends for 11-a-side Boys'.
  • Duration of all games will be two 15 minute halves with 5 minute halftime when teams must change
  • ends for 06-a-side Boys' and Girls'.
  • Five substitutions will be allowed during a game and should take place when the ball is out of play. Players must enter and leave the field of play from the sideline, near the halfway line. Rolling substitutions are not allowed.
  • The off -side rule will be implemented for the entire tournament for 11 a side.
  • All matches will be played according to the FIFA rules.
  • Players need to wear appropriate sports kit (i.e. Jerseys with numbers, shorts, studs or appropriate
  • shoes and shin guards).
  • All teams need to report 30 minutes before their scheduled time; failure to do so will result in a
  • walkover.

Swimming

Rules and Regulations : Individual Events

  • 50 meters freestyle (under 19) 2. 100 meters freestyle (under 19) 3. 100 meters Individual medley [open](Backstroke, butterfly stroke, breaststroke and freestyle) Team Events 1. 200 meters freestyle relay
  • The swimming pool measures 25x12.5 meters with 4 feet depth.
  • Only two participants from each school can take part in an event except in the relay.
  • Participants need to carry their swimming gear with them. CVSL will not be held responsible for any
  • loss of valuables or theft.
  • All the participants need to report to the pool 30 minutes prior to the event.
  • Late reporting will lead to disqualification.
  • Participants will get 30 minutes warm-up session before the final events.
  • A dive-start is not allowed.
  • Only one chance will be given for a 'Restart'.
  • Competitors will use the swimming pool at their own risk
  • Participants with any medical history or open wounds will not be allowed to participate; all the team managers / coaches need to inform the event In-charge about any medical history of their participants.
  • Result will be declared on the basis of 'best timings' from the heats.
  • Referee's decision will be final.

Abhivyakta(Art Competition)

Theme- Glimpses of Spandan

Types of artwork:
  • Acrylic on Canvas
  • Watercolor on handmade paper

Watercolour on cartridge paper. Material CVSL will provide canvases measuring 16 inches x 20 inches, or a handmade or a cartage paper measuring 22 inches x 30 inches, maximum. The participants need to carry their art materials such as colour, paint brush, colour pallet, water container to name a few. Students can click a picture with their cameras. The picture can be used as a reference to draw and paint. Use of the internet, or help by an accompanying teacher or a friend in any form may result in disqualification.

Type of Artwork; Installation Art: Material CVSL will provide a sealed box of waste material for installation. Participants need to create a 3D installation only with the materials provided. A suitable title needs to be given to their installation. The Installation art work may not necessarily be related to the theme, 'Glimpses of Spandan'. Categories: Category I: Grade 8 and below Category II: Grade 9 and above

Prizes: There will be a first and second prize under each category.

Bailmos: Let’s Dance!

Group Dance -Grade 4 to 8

RULES AND REGULATION :
Theme: Indian, non-Indian or Fusion NO. OF PARTICIPANTS: min 6 max 16 Duration:
  • The time limit for each performance will be a maximum of 8 minutes clocked from empty stage to empty stage. The time includes the placement and removal of props, if any. Selection of songs:
  • The song/s should be school appropriate.
  • No cassette/tapes or Mp3 CDs will be accepted.
  • All music will be accepted only in a USB flash drive.
  • The flash drive with particular music, specifying the track number and the name of the school/code must be handed over to the activity in-charge, a day prior to the competition.
  • Choreography:
  • The dance choreography should be original and not borrowed from “YouTube” or any other internet sources.
  • The participants need to perform at least one step together on stage.
  • Light and sound will be provided by CVSL for all the teams.
  • Use of projector is not allowed. Costumes:
  • The costumes chosen must be decent and school appropriate. Props:
  • Necessary props and creativity is allowed.
  • Teams are strictly warned not to use hazardous or inflammable material on stage.
  • The order of performances will be given 10 minutes before the commencement of the competition. Prizes:

Thirkan

INDIAN CLASSICAL DANCE - GRADE 8 TO 12

RULES AND REGULATION :
THEME: Indian Classical Solo (Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Kuchipudi, Kathakali, Manipuri, Odissi and Mohiniattam)

Number of Participants: 1 per school
DURATION:

The time limit for each dance performance will be a maximum of 5 minutes from empty stage to empty stage. The time includes time for placement and removal props, if any.

SELECTION OF SONGS:
  • No cassette/tapes or Mp3 CDs will be accepted.
  • Please note that all music will be accepted only in a USB flash drive.
  • The flash drive with particular music specifying the track number and the name of the school/code must be handed over to the activity in-charge one day before the competition.
CHOREOGRAPHY:
  • The dance choreography should be original and not borrowed from YouTube or any other internet sources.
  • A brief introduction of the dance style.
  • Light and sound will be provided by the organisers and is common for all teams.
  • Use of projector is not allowed.
PROPS:
  • Necessary props and creativity is allowed.
  • Participants are strictly warned not to use hazardous or inflammable material on stage.
  • The order of performances will be given 10 minutes before the commencement of the competition.

Tamasha (Nukkad Natak)

Street Theatre or Nukkad Natak was once a popular form of traditional art, used to sensitize, people spread awareness and voice issues about the society. Participating teams need to prepare a street play in advance in order to generate social responsibility and awareness. A social message should be conveyed through the play.

RULES AND REGULATION :
  • The team can comprise of 6 to 15 members from Grade 4 to Grade 12.
  • Hinglish is the Language to be used.
  • Each team will be allotted 10 to 15 minutes to present their street play.
  • Teams need to be original and plagiarism from any source is not permitted Pre-recorded music is not allowed.
  • Teams must carry their materials e.g. clothes, musical instruments, props to name a few. Absolute respect and sensitivity towards all must be maintained.
  • Any non-compliance with the rules will lead to a disqualification of the team.

GenX Ramp

The Fashion show - Grade 9-12

Looking at the current pace at which fashion is evolving, what would the GenX wear post five decades from? Design and present your futuristic evening wear keeping in mind the changes in equipments, lifestyle, mentality of people and materials used?

THEME: Evening Dresses: 50 years ahead in Time!

RULES AND REGULATION :
  • No. of participants: Minimum 5, Maximum 15.
  • The time limit for the show is 8 minutes from empty stage to empty stage. This time is inclusive of the time taken to place and remove props, if any.
  • Please note that music will only be accepted in a USB flash drive. No cassette tapes or MP3 or CDs will be accepted.
  • The flash drive with song or music specifying the name of the school and code must be handed over to the activity in charge a day before the competition.
  • Light and sound will be provided by CVSL and is common for all teams.
  • Use of a projector is not allowed.
  • Each team should have a commentator ready with the commentary which talks about how their dresses / accessories / makeup matches with the theme.
Props:
  • Necessary props and creativity is allowed.
  • Teams are strictly warned not to use hazardous or inflammable material on stage.
  • The order of performances will be given 10 minutes before the commencement of the competition.

Prizes: There will be one prize of the Best Show.

  • Costume, accessories and make-up.
  • Commentary narration on the use of materials, dresses, accessories and makeup according to the theme.

General Information: There will be one Winners Trophy for overall performance and participation in all events.
